DAY 1: JULY 30 ARRIVAL IN ACCRA AND TRANSFER TO KUMASI
Arrive at Accra airport
Meet, assist and go for lunch at Buka Restuarnat
In the evening go back to the airport and transfer via AWA to Kumasi

DAY 2: JULY 31 COCOA FARM AND ASHANTI CRAFT VILLAGES AND KUMASI CITY TOUR
Breakfast
Depart your hotel after breakfast visiting Bonwire, famous in the Ashanti Region for producing some
Ghana’s finest Kente cloths. Many designs of cloth are woven here and some are
exclusive only to this region. We will interact with the locals, learning the history
behind the many designs. As we walk through the villages interact with the highly
skilled locals weaving outside their homes.
The machine that the weavers use have not changed from centuries. Our time at
Bonwire will offer the perfect opportunity to buy excellent quality cloth at very
reasonable prices.
Continue to the village of Ntonso, very well know all over the world for the Adinkra cloth. Adinkra pre-dates Kente and the symbols used to adorn cloths all have
meaning. Learn how the dye is extracted local by the artisans and the meaning of the
Adinkra symbols. You have the opportunity to produce your own strip of Adinkra cloth
with meaning of personal significance.
Lunch (on your own)
Proceed after lunch for a City tour of Kumasi visiting the Manhyia
Palace Museum located within the precincts of the official residence of the
Asantehene to see Ashanti culture, history and wealth. Continue to the Kumasi Cutural Centre
And Prempeh II Jubilee Museum. There is a wonderful craft market in the grounds, an opportunity to buy traditional Ashanti craft at reasonable prices.
Proceed after lunch to the Okonfo Anokyi Teaching Hospital to visit the legendary
Okonfo Anokyi sword and it spiritual significance to the formation of the Ashanti Empire
and it kingdom today.

DAY 3: AUGUST 1 ASSIN MANSO RIVER HERITAGE SITE
Breakfast and Checkout
After breakfast depart the Ashanti Region to Elmina, en route stop to attend the Emancipation Day Durbar. Visit Assin
Manso Slave Heritage Site, the burial site of the remains of two
former slaves exhumed from New York’s Wall Street and the Jamaica Kingston
see the “Slave River”. Where captured Africans from the many ethnic wars were made to have their last bath before being marched to the coast for the Americas. Attend the Emancipation Day Durbar

DAY 4: AUGUST 2 ELMINA CASTLE FISHING HARBOUR, FISH SMOKING VILLAGE
Breakfast
Depart your hotel later morning after breakfast for tour of the Elmina Castle, the
first and oldest European structure built of any substance on African soil. This was
built by the Portuguese in1482 and later used as an auction market for a
comprehensive guided tour. See the slave dungeons and condemn cells where slave
who attempted to escape were incarcerated. View its utterly distinct architecture.
Rest of the day free for relaxation.

DAY 5: AUGUST 3JAVA MUSEUM, DUAKRO VILLAGE CAPE COAST AND FORT
AMSTERDAM LIVE MUSIC
Breakfast and checkout
Depart Elmina for Accra after breakfast visiting the Java Museum, drive through Cape
Coast Town with a panoramic view of the Cape Coast Castle which was originally
started by the Swedes in 1652. It served as the headquarters and seat of the British
Colonial Government until 1877.
Continue to Accra, Drive along the coast through several fishing villages and
coconut lined beaches. Stop en route at Abandze near Kromantin to visit Fort
Amsterdam which was built as English lodge in 1631 and was taken over by the
Dutch and named Amsterdam in 1661. It is believed that most of the enslaved
Africans who went through this fort ended up in Surinam and formed the Maroon
Society (Cormantin Slaves). Go on a guided tour of this fort and later interact with
the people Abandze village who are believed to be descendants of enslaved
Africans who managed to escape and those who were freed after the slave trade was abolished.
Lunch at local restaurant (on your own)
Arrive late afternoon in Accra and in the evening dance to the tune of Ghanaian
High life music Live from a joint nearby.

DAY 6: AUGUST 3 ACCRA CITY TOUR, ART CENTRE
Breakfast
Depart your hotel for the Naming Ceremony (Dress Code All White) and after go on city tour of Accra driving through the Makola Market to Old Accra.
You will drive past the Usher Fort to visit the James Town for the to the Kwame Nkrumah Mausoleum and Park, final resting place of
Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, the first President of Ghana. The Mausoleum has been
visited by many world dignitaries..
Lunch at a local restaurant (on your own)
After lunch, drive past the Independence Arch and Black Star Square – Accra’s
ceremonial grounds. View from a distance the Christiansborg Castle which is the
official residence of the President of Ghana. Finally visit the National Art and Cultural
Centre for shopping, view a varied collection of Ghanaian hand-crafted items on sale.
You may try out your bargaining skills on the local vendors.

DAY 7: AUGUST 4 ADA ESTUARY CRUISE ON THE VOLTA RIVER
Depart your hotel after breakfast to Ada. Drive past Tema Township the Ghana’s
second port city. Arrive at Ada and go on a boat ride along the Volta River. Sail to
the estuary and see the Volta River crash into the Atlantic Ocean. Explore the
many islands on the estuary. Visit the Auster Village and see a local people use
simple methods to process Auster from the Volta River

Rest of afternoon at leisure

DAY 8: AUGUST 5 TRANSFER AND DEPARTURE
In the evening transfer to the airport for departure home.
