DAY 1: FRIDAY SEPTEMBER 16 ARRIVAL IN ACCRA

DAY 2: SATURDAY SEPTEMBER 17 ACCRA CITY TOUR
Breakfast
Depart for a city tour of Accra visiting the Kwame Nkrumah Mausoleum and Park, the final resting place of Dr Kwame Nkrumah, the first President of Ghana.
Visit W.E.B. Du Bois Centre for Pan Africanism. It is a Pan African Center for culture and it also has a research library and gallery full of manuscripts.
Lunch at a local restaurant
After lunch, drive past the Independence Arch and Black Star Square – Accra’s ceremonial grounds. View from a distance the Christiansborg Castle which is the official residence of the President of Ghana. Continue to the National Art and Cultural Shopping Centre. View a varied collection of Ghanaian hand-crafted items on sale.

DAY 3: SUNDAY SEPTEMBER 18 ABURI BOTANICAL GARDENS AND BEADS FACTORY
Breakfast
Depart your hotel after breakfast to visit Aburi Botanical Gardens established in 1890 as a convalescent for the British Colonial officers governing the then Gold Coast now Ghana and relax under the shade of huge trees, some of which are over hundred years old. The Aburi Botanical Gardens was designed for Scientific Research and Pleasure.
It is a habitat for plants from all over the world. Over the years, the Garden has cultured a variety of tropical plants, which attract many birds and butterflies. Go on a conducted tour of its many herb lawns and well-manicured gardens.

Continue to Somanya after lunch, stop en route at Krobo Odumasi to visit Cedi’s Beads Factory to observe the intriguing bead-making process. Watch the centuries-old process of bead making from start to finish. Learn, and discover the art of bead making. Here you may purchase beads locally made for friends and family back home.
Proceed to Stone Lodge Hotel for a lecture on the history of Ghana and culture. Return to Accra.

DAY 4: MONDAY SEPTEMBER 19 COCOA FARM AND ASHANTI CRAFT VILLAGES
Breakfast and Checkout
Depart Accra after a good night’s sleep and breakfast to Kumasi
A visit to Bonwire, famous in the Ashanti Region for producing some of Ghana’s finest Kente cloths.
Many designs of cloth are woven here and some are exclusive only to this region. We will interact with the locals, learning the history behind the many designs.
As we walk through the villages, interact with the highly skilled locals weaving outside their homes.
The machine that the weavers use has not changed in centuries. Our time at Bonwire will offer the perfect opportunity to buy excellent quality cloth at very reasonable prices.
After this wonderful excursion, we will visit a nearby village that has a century-old cocoa farm.
Ghana is the world’s 2nd largest producer of cocoa and many families rely solely on the income they receive from farming it. Learn the process of producing quality Cocoa beans.

Continue after lunch to the village of Ntonso, very well known all over the world for the Adinkra cloth. Adinkra pre-dates Kente and the symbols used to adorn clothes all have meanings. Learn how the dye is extracted locally by the artisans and the meaning of the Adinkra symbols. You will have the opportunity to produce your own strip of Adinkra cloth with the meaning of personal significance.
Continue to Manhyia Palace Museum located within the precincts of the official residence of the Asantehene to see Ashanti culture, history and wealth.

DAY 5: TUESDAY 20 SEPTEMBER KUMASI CITY TOUR
Breakfast
Depart for a city tour of Kumasi.
Visiting the Kumasi Cultural Centre and Prempeh II Jubilee Museum.
There is a wonderful craft market on the grounds, this is an opportunity to buy traditional Ashanti crafts at reasonable prices.

Proceed after lunch to the Okomfo Anokye Teaching Hospital to visit the legendary Okomfo Anokye sword and its spiritual significance to the formation of the Ashanti Empire and its kingdom today.

DAY 6: WEDNESDAY 21 SEPTEMBER ASSIN MANSO RIVER HERITAGE SITE
Breakfast and Checkout
After breakfast departs the Ashanti Region to Elmina in the Central Region, stop on the way to visit Assin Manso Slave Heritage Site, the burial site of the remains of two former slaves exhumed from New York’s Wall Street and Kingston, Jamaica. You will also see the
“Slave River”. Where captured Africans from the many ethnic wars were made to have their last bath before being marched to the coast for the Americas.
Lunch at Elmina Beach Resort
Depart after lunch to the Elmina Castle, the first and oldest European structure built of any substance on African soil. This was built by the Portuguese in 1482 and later used as an auction market for a comprehensive guided tour. See the slave dungeons and condemn cells where slaves who attempted to escape were incarcerated. View its utterly distinct architecture.
Continue panoramically through the Elmina fishing Harbour and the Fish Smoking Village, witness first-hand the retuning of the fishermen from the sea with their catch and colourful canoe with many distinctive flags which serve as an identity and security on the sea.
The rest of the day is free for relaxation.

DAY 7: THURSDAY 22 SEPTEMBER KAKUM PARK AND CAPE COAST CASTLE.
Breakfast
Depart Elmina after breakfast to visit Kakum National Park. Go on a morning walk of the “Kuntan Trail” with its countless trees with medicinal properties. For the young, at heart experience, the “Canopy Walkway” is suspended 100 feet from the forest ground for a panoramic view of the flora and fauna of the remaining vestiges of the rainforest.

Continue after lunch to Cape Coast and visit the Cape Coast Castle which was originally started by the Swedish in 1652.
It served as the headquarters and seat of the British colonial government until 1877. Go on a comprehensive tour of the Castle, the Slave Dungeons and the West African Heritage Museum. The guide will lead you to slave quarters and Negotiation Hall where our ancestors were bargained and sold.

DAY 8: FRIDAY 23 SEPTEMBER VISIT TO SEKONDI AND TAKORADI
Breakfast
Depart your hotel after breakfast to the Western Region. Drive through many rusted villages and towns to the Twin City Sekondi and Takoradi.
Drive past Monkey Hill and adjoining wetlands. Unique virgin forest inhabited by monkeys and birds in the centre of the metropolis.
Drive past the Regional Hospital, through Beach road to Sekondi.
Drive through European Town. The old colonial buildings, High Court,
Commercial and Residential buildings.
Lunch with Cultural Show (Atlantic Restaurant)
After lunch drive to the Market Circle and past Fort Orange. Story of the Fort and the old Railway Station.
Drive past Takoradi Market Circle and through the main commercial streets; John Sarbah Road.
Drive back to Elmina

DAY 9: SATURDAY 24 SEPTEMBER RETURN TO ACCRA
Breakfast and Checkout
Depart for Accra on a 3-hour journey. Drive along the coast through several fishing villages and coconut lined beaches. Stop en route at Abandze near Kromantin for a panoramic view of Fort Amsterdam which was built as an English lodge in 1631 and was taken over by the Dutch and named Amsterdam in 1665. It is believed that most of the enslaved Africans who went through this fort ended up in Surinam and formed the Maroon Society (Kromantin Slaves).
Arrive in Accra and proceed to Teshie to witness the Homowoh Festival. Homowoh literally means hooting at hunger. The people of Ga in Accra started the Homowoh Festival after they had endured famine when they first land in Accra.

DAY 10: SUNDAY 25 SEPTEMBER NAMING CEREMONY AND RELAXATION, SHOPPING AND PARKING

Depart your hotel Teshie for your Naming Ceremony (Dress Code All White). The rest of the day is free for relaxation at the poolside of your hotel

DAY 11: MONDAY SEPTEMBER 26 TRANSFER TO THE AIRPORT AND DEPARTURE
Breakfast and Checkout
In the evening, farewell dinner and transfer to the airport for departure home. End of service.
